Common starting points

The hard part is not always the whole subject.

A learner may understand most of the work and still become stuck at one important decision. A useful lesson begins by locating that decision—not by starting the entire subject over.

Choose a subject

Four subjects. One clear way forward.

Each path explains what tutoring can focus on and how Steven's teaching approach applies to that subject.

Inside a lesson

Start with the exact moment the work stops making sense.

A longer explanation is not always a better explanation. Steven can look at the learner's attempt, listen to the reasoning, and choose one useful place to begin again.

Illustrative starting point

“I can follow the example, but I don't know how to begin this one.”

  1. Notice the sticking pointCompare the example with the learner's attempt and locate the first uncertain decision.
  2. Reframe the ideaUse a different explanation, question, or example to make the reasoning visible.
  3. Practice the following moveTry a fresh version while the learner explains what they are choosing and why.

The Georgiev Method

A lesson moves through decisions, not a script.

The four-part framework keeps the work organized while leaving room to change the explanation, example, or pace.Explore the Method
  1. 1

    Find the starting point

Begin with what the learner already understands and identify the exact place where the work becomes unclear.

    Lesson question
What already makes sense—and where does it change?
    Record
    A precise starting point
  2. 2

    Explain the idea clearly

Break the concept into useful steps and connect new information to something the learner can already recognize.

    Lesson question
Which example or explanation makes the idea visible?
    Record
    A usable explanation
  3. 3

    Practice together

Work through an example with guidance, questions, and room to correct misunderstandings as they appear.

    Lesson question
Can the learner apply the idea with support?
    Record
    A guided attempt
  4. 4

    Review and explain it back

Revisit the idea, put it into the learner's own words, and identify what to practice after the lesson.

    Lesson question
Can the learner explain the reasoning and name useful practice?
    Record
    A recorded takeaway
